World of Battleships official site confirms aircraft carriers

Wargamer.net has announced the official site of World of Battleships has gone live, which has confirmed the inclusion of aircraft carriers as one of the available class of ships available to gamers in-game.

According to the website, players have three main classes of ships at their disposal:

* Aircraft carriers that provide both naval and air support
* Battleships and heavy cruisers able to scarify the enemy with their looks alone
* Light destroyers with speed and agility as their strongest points

Each of the classes have their strengths. The newly confirmed aircraft carriers are capable of covering the allies from air or routing an aircraft cell towards the enemy. Destroyers are fast and nimble, attacking like a pack of wolves to harrass and destroy enemy ships, while the battleships are floating tanks that simply use caliber salvos to wear down enemies through brute force.

I hope the system works better than in WOT, fast and nimble is useless there.

Not useless, just trumped by armour.

Also, I already knew this, probably read it in an interview or something.

Hmmmm... I wonder how Aircraft carriers are going to work. Battleships are easy, just aim and shoot. I hope we can fly the planes here.

Aircraft Carriers launch planes towards a certain sector or target I think. These then automatically attack targets.

If they do battleships accurately they will do a lot of showing off and then run away to hide in a fjord instead of fighting :P

I'm guessing torp bombers, dive bombers and fighters for air intercept.

I trust there is a decent balancing unit/s for the Carrier, such as land-based fighter bombers or the addition of U-Boats and I-Boats (Japanese), otherwise there is no real competition. Battleships will easily succumb to carrier attacks, and will be nigh on invincible when escorted by destroyers (as a team).

The carrier will probably be the MMO equivalent of having pets.

There are no U-boats.

They said it wouldn't be fun to fight against invisible opponents that can suddenly kill you. You know, like WoT SPG's. :P

Cruisers should have good AA.

LOL yea, the SPG's are fine but the subs not :).

I hated SPG's, if only they were support weapons and not snipers. Getting sniped in a Leo by an SPG while going top speed was always a huge WTF moment.

But in the end it weren't the SPG's that drove me away but the unfair matchmaking and silly unrealistic spotting system. And the only reason i'm still complaining is cause i loved the game at some point.

I actually have the game running minimized right now...so call me crazy, but I still like playing it.

I wont do that, i liked the game a lot so i can easily understand you. It just means you're not nitpicking as much as i am :).

Oh I'm picking nits all over the place, trust me on that!

I just think it's still fun despite the flaws.

Trouble is, the only "carrier-killers" were Dive Bombers (torpedo aircraft sunk more battleships and cruisers), Kamikazes and U-Boats.
If the carrier were deemed as an objective that players had to protect (NPC without attack capabilities) then it might work.

Real-life isn't going to fly here mate.

They'll get sunk by big ships.
