A new hope for X-Wing? LucasArts making "aerial combat title"

Shameless wordplay aside, LucasArts has exploded the rumour-mill with hopeful chatter that they might be offering a new instalment to the X-Wing series.

They're looking for a 'Senior Gameplay Engineer' for an "Aerial Combat Title" in the works in San Francisco, with knowledge of "space-based shooters" a plus.

Already LucasArts have revealed they've got a secret open-world roleplaying game being developed thanks to other recruitment ads zipping around the Internet. The Star Wars X-Wing series is a much beloved franchise spin-off.

"Experience with flight sims, aerial shooters, and especially space-based shooters a plus", listed the job position on the official Lucasfilm website. The only other Star Wars title that could be in the mix involving a lot of aerial combat would be the Battlefront series.

Do we dare hope for Star Wars: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter to return?

If it's a multiplatform project, it won't be anywhere near the complexities of the very strategic initial "X-Wing/ TIE Fighter" series, but more like "Starfighter".

Even if they do make it I imagine we'll be waiting a loooong time.

Would be about time if they made a Good SW game again! I never got to play any of the X-Wing games, but I have played all the Rogue Squadron games. And I really miss playing them!
Was a good feeling getting a Gold medal in every level. Or flying over an Imperial military base at night in a stolen Tie Bomber. :)
Man those were the good 'ol days. :)

The original series was brilliant. Each mission presented true problem-solving situations, and many times I attempted missions before realising the solution (that "protect the hospital ship" was a bitch). First game I bought a joystick for, and later a soundcard:)
Those were the days....

If good old LucasArts decide to make this, I'm sure it will be something special. I just hope that the accent will be on SIMULATION, not the arcade :)

Wow - now that is a reason to go out scouting for a joystick - if it is a true successor to X-wing vs TIE
