The "other" Star Wars MMO run by Sony Online Entertainment, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, has hit 8 million registered users one year after release. This comes in the wake of the upcoming closure of SOE's Star Wars Galaxies.

"LucasArts continues to be an excellent partner, giving our team unprecedented access so that we can continue to create a virtual world that expands beyond the storylines of the TV show in fun and creative ways," beamed SOE president John Smedley.

LucasArts vice president of global publishing Mary Bihr added, "Our partnership with Sony Online Entertainment has helped expand The Clone Wars franchise across multiple mediums, making the fan base stronger than ever. Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures has reached this benchmark because of its authenticity to The Clone Wars storyline, immersive gameplay mechanics and easy online accessibility that caters to both young and old."

LucasArts also has vested interest in Electronic Arts and BioWare's upcoming Star Wars MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic.

I...never even heard of this game. I'll bet that it doesn't have 8 million active players, though.

Me neither, which is weird for a Star Wars MMO.

It's free-to-play. It's also aimed at teens.

So it's more along the lines of BSG online. I usually consider the whole Clone Wars TV show arc to not exist in the SW universe. I wouldn't put it past Lucas to shoehorn a digital Ashoka at the end of ROTJ at some point.

"BSG Online" is more for the faithful who've followed the re-birth of the BSG series (watched the original series on TV when about 15).
As for "The Clone Wars" - I though the SFX were actually better than most from the films. As for Lucas, he is no talent (try and read the novel "Star Wars" if you can) but does enjoy his cash.

I'm sorry, WHAT has just hit 8M subscribers?

Consider me flabbergasted.
