DICE's multiplayer beta for Battlefield 3 officially starts today if you pre-ordered through EA's Origin service or own a copy of Medal of Honor Limited Edition.

Keys will be emailed out from lunchtime today to those eligible. It's done by an automated system that "sends a bunch out every hour". Ends October 10th.

They're "awaiting further messaging on PS3" before the beta begins on the Sony platform. Everyone will have access to the beta this Thursday, September 29th. The game mode is Rush on map Operation Metro, seen many times in gameplay clips.

"Please don't ask about 'when do I get my email' etc," gameplay designer Gustav Halling said. "We don't know, this is an automated system that sends a bunch out every hour starting around lunch today." Keys fire off "around 1pm-3pm CET on PC and Xbox 360".

The open beta draws to a close October 10th. The beta client appears automatically on the Xbox Live Marketplace, PlayStation Store and on the Origin download service.

"We are still fine tuning the ranking system and we don't want to give beta players an unfair advantage when Battlefield 3 launches," said DICE, revealing that beta stats won't carry through to the retail release unlike your soldier name.

Battlefield 3 releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC October 28th.

Got my key early this morning. I'm glad this is not linked to Steam, as so many games that are nowadays are having big problems with code conflicts (Sega, Activision, 2K).
Just downloaded the Beta and am waiting for the lousy sods currently online to get off. Uses a Matchmaking system to play so you just have to wait in line.

BTW, feedback is in the "BOOM! Headshot!" Camp so as not to offend EA (bloody EULA is very vague on this).
