DICE: Origin bans for those on unofficial Battlefield 3 servers

Developer DICE has issued a stern warning to "avoid temptation" of playing on unofficial Battlefield 3 servers as Origin bans will come from EA.

Those servers can 'compromise accounts' with altered stats and "other issues" which may stir EA to ban offenders. An Origin ban affects all connected titles.

"Please avoid temptation and remain on these official servers while we work to have these servers dealt with," said the DICE Associate Producer, Bazajaytee. "Playing on those servers can cause your account to become compromised, stats to be altered or other issues to arise which may lead to having your account banned by EA."

"If your account gets banned it does mean any EA game you have on your account would also be unavailable," they added.

Server files leaked for Battlefield 3 and led to some unofficial servers hosting 100+ player matches for the 32-player limited Operation Metro map in game mode Rush. Battlefield 3 releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC October 28th. The open beta is up and running.

I saw those servers (one called "EA Fu*#ed") and they hosted from 64 up to 128 players on "Operation Metro" in Conquest Mode, not just Rush. Avoid at all costs, as your account will be banned - for all your EA games. It's not a threat, it's a promise from EA.

EA will be incorporated into Origin eventually, and the EA Store much sooner. Therefore all games, as with Steam will be linked with Origin. Get in trouble on Steam and see how fast your account is banned. Same will go for Origin.

Yeah, but STEAM bans comes in different flavors and they have recalled locks easier. They rarely block you out for using mods etc with games...

EA and BioWare locked out players for talking crap on their forums that rendered their games unplayable since the forum was connected to EA profile - no game for you. Be obedient and be silent in class sheeples! ;)

So are you supposed to know which servers are official and which not? It's their fault that the servers are even accessible on their server list. FU EA.

Wow, another reason why Origin sucks badly. Steam FTW :) I just hope that SOMEHOW BF3 will be available without Origin. But that's hard to believe.

I know of a few on Steam, only recently who bad-mouthed Valve and Steamworks in their Forums and found their accounts banned (not just their Forum posting). However, Origin is still in Beta so the final product is really yet to be seen. Bottom line, and I have to say I personally loathe this, is that you DO NOT have Freedom of Speech, nor freedom of action for that matter, and as they 'own' your accounts and by proxy your games, you will lose them all.
One other thing I find horrid while playing "BF3 - beta" is that you can only have one Profile for the game and uses your Account Name (shown in-game). While you CAN contact EA and have your account name changed many are finding their real names appearing in-game. The only upside to this is that Level 50+ players cannot create a new Profile and play on "Level 35 and Under" servers and be a Bush Wookie.

They just force legal users to go for pirating...this is not the way.

I seriously cant believe how determined they are to undermine their own game. BF3 went form being pretty much on the top of my to buy games to: meh I'll just stick with Red orchestra 2.

The only reason i'd get this game now is if my buddies go for it and pull me in as well.

Lichlord nobody owns the software they buy.

All you get is a license to use a copy of the software; the people who build the software own it. Those same people get to setup servers for the users, in any way they see fit!
