A new report has surfaced claiming that E.T. and Indiana Jones director Steven Spielberg, along with Dreamworks, will be taking on the Halo movie adaptation.

Microsoft has always said they're very interested in Halo for cinema, but that they'd never rush into any agreement. They might even finance the film themselves.

"A film adaptation is set in 2012. It will be conducted jointly by two heavyweights of American cinema: Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks," reports Halo.fr, detailing the French press kit released with the novel Halo: Cryptum, authored by Greg Bear.

Will the Halo movie be based off Greg bear's Forerunner Saga? Halo: Cryptum is the first instalment in the book series. In 2009 Steven Spielberg was said to be interested in a Halo film project and in negotiations with Microsoft.

New York Comic-Con is almost here - could an announcement be ready? What part of the Halo timeline do you think would best fit a blockbuster movie, videogamer?

Will he direct or just produce (as he normally does these days). Time will tell.

Halo could be a good movie as long as it's not aimed at people that know the game but instead at the general sci-fi population.
