S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 features always on internet DRM

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is fairly early in development, but GSC Game World has announced that it would feature the dreaded "internet always on" DRM that has been inflicted on various games, like Assassin's Creed and Command & Conquer 4 in the past, and for the upcoming Diablo III.

According to GSC Game World head Sergey Grigorovich in a recent interview:

Protection from piracy? Part of the content will be located on the server and downloaded as the game progresses. Permanent internet access is required. Text information, code and quests will be loaded through that connection. Software piracy is an issue for us, we try to fight it, but within reason.

If people can not afford a licensed version, it is to our advantage if they download a pirated copy, and then want to buy a license. In Ukraine, there are different products that people love so much that they buy a license in principle. We want to create just such a product.

So far, only the PC version is confirmed. One might wonder if such a DRM will be included in a hypothetical Xbox 360 or PlayStation Network version.

Oh dear, what a poor design choice. On paper it might have looked like a good idea, but remembering the dreadful lag issues and disconnects with the previous 3 MP components I'm not sure this will be a problem-free exercise. Needless to say that sales will of course be seriously affected.

If this is true, I'm just going to put a pirate's crack on it so it won't bother me.

Well, good job guys, your DRM will work enough to prevent me from buying it and playing it. Not going to pirate it I don't pirate games. A crack might work SirRoderick but considering the shape of previous games, it sounds like more trouble then it is wsorth...

Great :/.
I guess we need to get used to this stuff, or just put on ignore any company that tries to pull it off.

I don't mind the permanent internet, but I am quite worried about the connection problems.

"BF3", while using the online BattleLog browser will be offering it's SP as an offline experience. Much better option as pirates will have greater difficulty hacking that.

That gaming industry has changed so much over the years. Today you have a choice: Get a pirated version of a game, and experience some of the game's features, or buy the original and experience the full features of the game.

That is why they made demos, for people like us to test the game and see whether we want the game.

I have bought a few original copies lately, and I do not regret purchasing any of these games.
