Red Orchestra 2 patch erases player stats
Posted: 08.10.2011 06:28 by Comments: 11
The new Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad update coming from developer Tripwire will fix the numerous bugs that plagued the game on release, but it will also reset player stats. Part of the reason is that the launch had glitches that resulted in players receiving unearned stats boosts and achievements.

According to Tripwire, "Early players will receive a special 'In B4 Reset' achievement to acknowledge their previous participation, and Tripwire says it will be 'looking at ways to give special rewards to the players that have this achievement in the future.'"

To compensate, the developer will be offering double XP for all player "for the next few weeks" to get them back to their previous level. "This was not an easy decision for us to make, but one we felt we needed to do to preserve the integrity of the stats and ranking system, and to provide all of the players the best experience with the game over the long term," Tripwire apologized.

Red Orchestra 2 surpassed the lifetime revenue of the original game in just two days, and three times more than their previous biggest hit, Killing Floor. The game received mixed reviews, with a 76 Metacritic aggregate score.

Double XP, that's mighty generous seeing that most of them as those who maxed-out were getting 50 kills listed for every one insome cases, or for playing as several classes they hadn't even tried. It was insane, tho this just as nuts. Won't be an attractive offering to new players considering a purchase post-patch.
TWI have dropped the ball on this one, and will no doubt simply have the hardcore "RO" followers still playing come October 25th.

Good, off to play some more then.

I don't know why this would scare away newcomers. The game has been out for a while now and the poeple that played it from day one would already have a ton more experience than new players anyway.

Not scare them away, just not going to be muich fun when others (more experienced by this stage) are ranking up twice as fast. No real incentive to join the action.
Might pick it up eventually, when the sales are on. For now, after playing "RO: Ostfront" for a while I'll leave it be.

Won't EVERYONE get the double experince? That should include newcomers as well.

Nocutius is correct there hero. Only the in B4 reset achievement is for the "old" players.

Gotcha - didn't read the article well enough. I've been looking for more and more reasons to play this, but so much put me off in "RO" - like the recoil of the subbies. I've fired those weapons and the recoil is no where near what is represented (particularly braced against shoulder or hip). About the only kills I can safely get is in a tank.

The recoil is a lot more manageble now. Some say it's a bit on the light side actually.

Yes, I've read the complaints of "lack of realism" in "RO2" to do with this, but it was way over the top in the first one. Even the barrel of a rifle rising up after one shot is rubbish. In life firing even the KAR and Enfield, while perhaps giving a nasty bruise to an inexperienced shoulder has a minimal variation from sighting.
Gameplay comes first and foremost, as this is a videogame after all (not a simulator like "ArmA"...pretends to be:P). I still would like to play the game, however with a couple of games on pre-order I can't afford it right now. Woe is me:)
How is the community, Roderick? Better than "BF"'s is at the moment I hope.

Meh, the players are pretty decent on the whole but the forums are usually pretty full of whiners. It's been getting much better as of late, but they still pop up.

"You need more recoil!"
"You need less recoil!"
"Gun X is under/overpowered!"
"RO1 was so much better!"
"That gun clearly has the wrong colour bolt!"
"That gun clearly has the wrong serial number!"

Etc.

I was looking through the Forums again last night and those hating on the game are presenting well structured and intelligent arguments. The fanboys, and that's the best term for their childish comments are being overwhelmed. I don't know how many Australian Servers there are, but if it's only one or two then there's no reason to play for me.
As for "BF" - thats anyone's guess how the launch will go. Fingers crossed:X.
