BioWare and EA send cease-and-desist order to NeoGAF over Mass Effect 3 spoilers

Some internal story files for Mass Effect 3 were reportedly leaked, and posted on NeoGAF. Despite BioWare's Jesse Houston stating some of those files contained dated information, Electronic Arts and BioWare sent a cease-and-desist order to the gamer forum. NeoGAF has complied with the order.

In the official BioWare forum, Houston wrote, "We are still investigating, but it appears that some story files have been leaked. Even though the information in those files is out of date and does not reflect the final story experience, we urge fans not to read them if they want to experience the purest form of the story in Mass Effect 3."

The site has complied with the order, as moderators deleted the entire thread that was dedicated to the leaked Mass Effect 3 files, as well as editing posts that made reference to the Mass Effect 3 spoilers. As NeoGAF mod Vire posted in a thread:

"LET ME BE CLEAR: ANY TALK OF SUCH SPOILERS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED IN THIS THREAD.

Notice how the Mass Effect 3 Beta Leak thread is magically gone? That's because Bioware has sent GAF a C&D over the heavy story spoilers found on the site."

If you have the opportunity to read or view a highly anticipated game's story months before it was released, would you do it or would you deliberately turn it away to preserve yourself from spoilers?

Kill the spoilers with fire.

The more story intensive something is the more i loathe the spoilers. I'd actually go as far as give temporary bans to people that throw around spoilers without consideration to others and if they did it repeatedly they'd get a permanent ban. No mercy.

I just thought of a feature request :)

OMG i just noticed there's no Mass Effect 3 on Steam at all, stupid EA :(.
It would seem i really need to dualboot for origin infected games then, there's no way i'm letting that spyware on my main system. Unless anyone has a better idea.

I totally forgot that this is an EA game. I won't install Origin just for ME3. Instead, I'll buy the game, wait for the "official" crack and then play the game without that bothersome spy-, pardon, software.

So, how is Origin different than Steam?

Steam is less spywarey :).
Steam asks you if you wanna complete their survey and you can decline, Origin does not give you an option. Steam doesn't collect any personaly identifiable information, origin tries to steal as much of your info as possible including your tax information (unless that was a bunch of bull) etc. etc.
Steam has a proven track record, Origin still needs to earn my trust. After a while i migh reconsider my position but right now, it is what it is.

For one, that's not true. For another, Steam had no track record a mere 7 years ago.

But it has one now while Origin doesn't yet. Like i said a few times before i'm either gonna wait to see what the deal really is, or just dual boot and keep origin off my main system.
I didnt accept steam right off the bat either i was proven wrong then, maybe i'll be proven wrong again but i'll still wait for that proof.

Dual booting on the same PC wont keep it from scanning your files. Unless you disconnect one harddisk when using the other.

There should be a way to hide other drives without actually disconecting them. I'll just have to look a bit into it.

I'm all for burning spoilers :)

Also Origin still won't let me view the pages in anything but French. Despite the fact that I live in Belgium, it's perfectly reasonable that I don't speak fluent French you know.

Yes, the EA regions are quite odd. I know of someone living in Belgium who's pages are in German.

SirRoderick, same here, I live in Antwerp, which they can see by my IP, but they persist I speak french, just like MySpace. (Not that I use it :D)

That's beyond weird, one would really think they'd fix that, some people are very sensitive about stuff like this.

Porca puttana, I hope they don't also start assuming I speak Italian, cause i sure don't.

You'd they'd just let you...I don't know, maybe choose? I mean seriously.
