Ubisoft survey asks for opinion on future Assassin's Creed locations

A snapshot of a survey from Ubisoft shows the studio has been asking where people would most like a future Assassin's Creed to be set, like Victorian England or Ancient Egypt.

Maybe some Medieval China appeals to you more? The Russian Revolution with the rise of the Communists? Throwing off British rule in The American Revolution?

It seems they got their development eye on eight different "historical periods and locations" to exploit, and they'd like to know where to go. More Assassin's Creed is due next year.

This little survey signals there's more to Assassin's Creed after Desmond Miles, the star protagonist who accesses the memories of his ancestors. The next major instalment, thought to be out in 2012, is said to bring a close to his chapter. However Ubisoft have been keen to point out the Animus lets us go anywhere.

"Among the following propositions, in which of the following historical periods and locations would you like one of the next Assassin's Creed games to take place?", asked Ubisoft.

The survey options are:

•The violent conflicts of the Imperial Dynasties in Medieval China
•The advent of the mighty British Empire during Victorian England
•The culmination of the Pharaoh Reign in Ancient Egypt
•The invasion of the Americas by the Spanish Conquistadors
•The confrontation between British colonists and native Americans during The American Revolution
•The overthrow of the Tsar Empire by the Communists during the Russian Revolution
•The Warlord Battles in Feudal Japan
•The rise of Cesar's Empire in Ancient Rome

Last week Assassin's Creed: Revelations released on Xbox 360 and PS3, and it launches on PC this week.

SirRoderick: Why? For one, the American Revolution would also involve the French Revolution. They're hand-in-hand.

Bleh to that whole period. One of my least favourite parts of history. Personally I'd go for the China, England or Japan options, but the others are fine. As long as I don't get put into the American revolution.

Actually BEING American would probably make it more interesting I guess.

Rome is the obvious choice for many (it seems that's all the young 'uns care for).
American Revolution - been there done that in too many strategy titles...and it was a rather boring period, with Washington retreating throughout the entire "war" (if it wasn't for the French blockade they'd have lost).
Japan - done with "S2TW".
England - "Vic II"
Russian Revolution - now that would be dandy, particularly when the Royalists staged a counter revolution to win back their country.

See Hero knows what I'm talking about in regards to the American revolution. Quite frankly it was a bloody miracle that the whole thing didn't end in a matter of months.

Although I can't agree with the equation of Victoria and STW to an AC game, I wouldn't mind about that at all. Although the Russian revolution is something that I don't think has everbeen done at all, so that would be great.

Tbh I'm not sure England would fit this current storyline, it would be awesome to visit England in a future timeline though when the main character has changed and has different ancestors.

You say that, but have you considered all the possible Victorian gadgetry? I mean this is basically the era where steampunk gets its inspiration.

Good point, maybe I can't wait for AC 4 to feature Victorian England :P

It should also be fairly easy to find an historical "Leonardo da Vinci" in Victorian England, pretty much everything got invented there.

Yeah I'm sure there's someone, I'm not that savvy with history unfortunatley :( Jack the Ripper would be a VERY interesting character to see though! Templar? Rogue Assassin? Assassin killing secret templars?

What about India, during the reign of the British Empire and the East India Company? Great palaces, temples and monuments with vast, sprawling cities.
Instead of jumping into a haystick, Raj (or whatever he is called) could dive into a bed of nails....ouch!

I'd probably vote for the second one. Or the first one.

herodatus: Please note, it's called guerrilla warfare. It's how you defeat a foe who triapse around in red uniforms and fire in line. You use the land as a weapon. "Don't fire til you see the whites of their eyes."

(In addition, it fits as perfectly because the entire nation is founded by Freemasons, etc. Conspiracy city, even on the $1 bill. Incidentally, it makes Egypt attractive, too.)

The quote "Don't fire..." you used Jonah does come from the Revolution (a Captain early on gave that order in one of the frist skirmishes with the Red Coats). You probably knew that, but a lot think it comes from the Indian Wars much later.
It WAS guerilla warfare early in the piece, but once Washington organised an army, with French assistance in training the pitched battles were orthodox. Washington had to turn to subterfuge and resistance to avoid starvation and defeat.
If that Christmas Day (in the wee hours) crossing of the Delaware to engage the Hessians (now known as the Battle of Trenton) had gone against Washington the army would have collapsed. Very, very lucky the Hessians were mostly all hungover from the night before.

I like your idea of the masons, though they were prevalent in England and throughout the Empire.
I guess it comes down to how much Ubisoft want to appeal to American audiences in the main, as Sega and CA did with "Empire Total War".

It would be a close one between England and Egypt for me. I don't see why they'd go back to Rome, it would mean half the buildings from Brotherhood remained, albeit shinier.

I think the only way the next game will truly Feel new is if they pick China or Japan as the next setting.
The other ones are all just too similar.
