Galactic Civilizations II: Ultimate Edition announced

Stardock has announced a new bundle, Galactic Civilizations II Ultimate Edition, which will be released on Steam and GameStop's freshly acquired Impulse, and includes the original game as well as the Dark Avatar and Twilight of the Arnor expansions.

The bundle combines the latest improvements into a single package, including the campaigns from each game, while allowing players to design their own interstellar vessels from how they look, to weapons, shields and much more. Gamers can play in galaxies ranging in size from a dozen stars to many hundreds, while customizing their opponents by creating their own unique enemy civilizations. Players can also sabotage enemies by hiring secret agents to infiltrate behind rival territory. The game features unique technology trees for each of the 12 included civilizations, as well.

Stardock had recently announced that it would be bringing its games to Steam, whereas they were restricted to Impulse when Stardock was the sole owner of the digital distributor. GameStop's purchase of Impulse removed the conflict-of-interest barrier to releasing games on Steam.

I dont think this is new either, unless there's something more to it.

It's debuting on Steam for the first time. Also, if you owned GalCiv, Steam recognizes that and puts it in your Steam games library automatically.

I'm afraid with both "SoaSE" and "SotS" I don't know that I can bring myself to playing another 4x spaced-based title. However I am aware of it's pedigree.
Convince me, guys:)

GalCiv is very different than either. GalCiv is more about diplomacy and alliances. The AI is viciously intelligent. It's more of a traditional 4X game than either of those games as well.

Tempted, however I believe the Christmas sales, as they go on will empty my treasury.
Just made Rear Admiral in "STO"...wOOt!

Yeah Gal Civ is turn-based Civilization in Space :D As the title of the game says :) It reminds me of Civilization series, and that popular space mod for CivIV :)

I never got into Gal Civ. Being a major fan of such games, makes me wonder. I've tried playing an older release and just didn't grew attached to it. Hm I may give it another shot.

Never got into "MOO", and when I played the first title on release I was less than impressed. Don't know about this now, though I've been waiting for ages for the bundle to be released at a decent price. 75% off might entice me.

I can only recommend it as a solid turn-based title.

Busy playing "Panzer Corps" at present, and that will tie me up for a while. In addition I picked up "Greed Corp." from the Steam Sale - good little Indie Strat title.
I might just have to pick this one up, though being the Strategy whore that I am:)

I never played Galactic Civilization serie too. I love 4X space games, the best I played so far is Space Empire 5, very good indeed, but the AI is somewhat... irregular. Some matches are easy enough with the AI cooperating, other times, it immediatly attacks you without provocation and without having a force strong enough to do the job.

Space Empire 5? I felt that was very dissapointing myself. Then again I didn't play very long, so maybe I did it injustice.

Space Empire 5 was bloody good! May reinstall that one again. Thanks for the reminder paelleon! Graphics are sucky but the gameplay I really liked.

I don't have a clue where is my. I'll probably need to buy it. But worried about seriously outdated graphics. They were outdated when it came out a bits. Today... Mhm

@bosnian
Thanks mate, I love the Stork. However the download link took me to a Sendspace (or something) site. Attempting to download and install your file came up as a viral alert on "S&D Spybot" as it prompts you to install rubbish taskbars and smilies (sweet.com).
As for 'GCII" - I'll wait for "SoaSE 2" I believe. "Civilisation"-in-space just doesn't grab me.

Ps. Folks, "Panzer Corps" is 50% off at the moment at Matrix Games and Slitherine Studios site ($19.99). Not apamming, but the game is worth twice that (which it normally is - duh).
