The HBO series A Game of Thrones, based on George R.R. Martin's novels, will be going into video game territory again as an RPG from French developer Cyanide Studios.

The new title uses Unreal Engine 3 with its narrative script overseen by author George R.R. Martin. We're told trailers and other media will be coming out soon for fans to feast on.

Cyanide has already released a Game of Thrones title called Genesis, which was a real-time strategy, but it failed to amaze. They got the license before the HBO series went live.

"Cyanide realized a truly admirable work on Game of Thrones. The game is faithful to the unique ambiance found in George R.R. Martin's novels," declares Cédric Lagarrigue, Focus Home Interactive. "The narration, the artistic direction, the pace of the game and its realization make it one of the most exciting role-playing games to come in 2012."

It offers about "30 hours of gameplay" where we play as "Mors, sworn brother of the Night's Watch, and Alester, a Red Priest in search of redemption who is back to Westeros after a long exile." We get to choose their classes and fighting styles, as well as have our expectations of levelling up and getting loot fulfilled.

A Games of Thrones - RPG releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in early 2012.

I just finished reading Aussie mag "PC Powerplay"'s review and they gait 3/10. Not too good, as they are generally pretty spot on (tho they did give "BF3" 9/10, so they can't be too spot on).
