Square Enix will starting billing subscribers to Final Fantasy XIV Online January 6th next year, with all accounts being suspended the day previous to ensure you want to pay to play.

Also, as a continued apology for all the trouble, Square are keeping the monthly subscription fees discounted until late 2012/early 2013. The MMO soon launches Version 2.0.

The monthly charges will be dropped from £8.99/€12.99 to £6.99/€9.99 during the discounted period, and return to the usual price once the PS3 version has launched, or around that time.

The 90-day block of game time reduces from £18.87/€26.97 to £12.57/€17.97, and the 180-day package drops from £34.14/€47.94 to £21.54/€29.94. The MMO has been dogged by launch issues with Square Enix apologising profusely to users and fans of the Final Fantasy series, saying it has basically given the IP a black eye.
