EA: All Battlefield 3 patches are through Origin

Gamers who want to manually install Battlefield 3 patches on their PC are out of luck, as Electronic Arts has confirmed that the military shooter can only be updated through Origin.

Fans had asked EA about the direct download of patches for Battlefield 3 recently, chiefly due to the enormous 3.6GB patch that was just released. Direct access would, according to fans, allow for faster downloads, as well as give them the ease of accessing the patch on ISP mirrors. The publisher put the kibosh on that desire, stating there was only one way to install updates on Battlefield 3: Origin.

Battlefield 3 was released in late October for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Could you expect any different? I haven't seen a positive press release from EA in a long time.

And how would it hurt them to allow faster mirrors?

But then again i'm not sure if Steam allows this or not, i never had the need for it before.

Were you expecting anything different? Origin is like a new Steam and it's natural that patches are going to come through it.

Origin is the new Steam for EA only, so yeah from now on we might never see EA games on Steam.

Orign is actually the AntiSteam. It's everything Steam isn not and is a superfluous application, still in beta. Launch "BF3", which lauches Origin which then lauches Battlelog. Five minutes later you have the dubious and unstable Battlecrap where you then launch a MP server.

EA might have learned a few things if they'd studied Ubisoft's UPlay, which also attempted a Steam-like service that failed miserably. As big as EA are, Origin will only remain as it is required to play EA games. That might change when PC gamers just stop buying EA.

Yup, Origin sucks some major butt.
They do have super fast shipping though. I got BF3 in the mail the Exact day of it's release date.
Don't know why Origin would Have to be a requirement just to play a freaking game though.
Pretty stupid move on EA's part. Especially after hearing how many people hated Steam at first.

They implemented the same game system from Battlefield P4F the same log-in method, same server browser, this decision even made most users to use IE9 to start up the game, because Mozilla uses to much ressources to run.

I believe Battlelog was developed using Chrome, so that is supposedly the better service. However, with all of the fuss lately about Google, G-Mail and Chrome storing and possibly selling on personal details it's scratchy.
IE9 is regrade by many, myself included as a step backward from the often unstable IE8. IE8 is choice of the desperate for Battlelog, and FF really isn't the resource-hungry in the scheme of things. So the order in which to play "BF3":
1/ Chrome
2/ MFF
3/ IE8
4/ IE9

I've used them all, and find that IE is really still the worst when it comes to crashes. FF is fine for me, but on some does Chrome does better.
In summary,. Battlelog is unstable no matter the browser.

Yeap this was the badest move ever for EA/DICE, to make the game start up from a browser, it looks like a cheap MMORPG.
They could have made the Battlelog like a personal page for stats (like veterans was for Bad Company 2), and let the game start like BF2 or BC2.

It was yet one more step in their assault on Activision, attempting to riva;l "CoD - Elite". Stupid, stupid move.
