FAMAS rifle in Battlefield 3 to get nerfed
Posted: 29.12.2011 16:30 by Comments: 14
The FAMAS rifle in the Battlefield 3 DLC Back to Karkand is going to get nerfed, according to lead designer Alan Kertz.

According to the developer in a tweet, "After playing with and without fore grip on my FAMAS, not sure I could nerf it enough lol. Hmm, this one is a biiiiiiiiiit OP."

The reason the FAMAS rifle's imbalance went through without being noticed was due to Kertz not being around to make sure it wasn't overpowered. The DICE weapons expert explained, "I was on vacation, I think the Back 2 Karkand team did a great job without me, and the FAMAS just demonstrates that the foregrip is OP. It's the only accessory without any downside. Given that the FAMAS is very difficult to use without the foregrip, I can't really blame the team on B2K for having an item from the base game OP one of their additions. We'll get this sorted out and in the mean time, it's still only good at mid to close range."

Are there any other weapons or gadgets that are too imbalanced in Battlefield 3? Let us know what you think.

It appears everything is being nerfed efore I get to unlock the damn thing (aside from SAM's that are so useless now as to be basically left unused by anyone).
They need to address the recoil on the SCAR-H next...way overdone. Useless with a suppressor, and difficult to sustain accuracy with heavy barrel. Need it's heavy hitting power for the engineer class, though.

Good video, btw. Don't how the guy lasted that long with a sniper in his sights...dead in seconds is my usual time frame.

Getting nerfed? Hm I used FAMAS just the other week and got all unlocks. I find it difficult to get a steady aim with it in burst fire. Stopped using it. But if you get enough hits with it, the enemy falls down quickly. Though combination with lot of vertical climb makes it enough bad as well. So not really sure of nerfing.

I've found the AK all but useless in the game (like the LMG-88 and the M4A1). The vertical lift recoil your talking about with the Famas, Kres sounds exactly how the SCAR is at present. Short burst, and you might get 3 bullets on target before you're searching the heavens uncontrollably....while someone drills me with a F2000).

They seem to vary from game to game. For example, using the Famas in "MW3" is quite fun as is the AK-74, while the F2000 is rubbish. I know that's more "arcadey", however the "CoD" crowd would beg to differ. Actually they wouldn't beg, they'd abuse you in their usual mature fashion:)

Any gun getting nerfed that I'm not using is a thumbs up for me!

One thing they really so need to improve is the lock-on time for shoulder launched SAM's. By the time you've reaquired lock the chopper's flares have reloaded. Senseless. Some maps really do need efficiient anti-air, Wake Island being one of them (and has been since "BF2").

Yeah really difficult currently to get something airborn down. You need 2 people.

Once you get two choppers camping the first flag on Wake (as the US) you're pretty much buggered. Spawn there and it's insta-kill. Spawn on the carrier and it's snipe city from the sky and cliffs. I avoid the map always now.
Pretty much the only 2 maps you're safe to use a Stinger on, for eg. is Firestorm and Caspian and even then the jet has flown out of range for the second shot, or the copper just dips behind a building. Then their flares are back up. Pointless exercise, and you're exposed the whole time.
Really need to start getting points for damaging armour and air as well. Two hits with a RPG will get it damaged enough for someone else to finish it off (as you writhe on ground dying from the bugger who spotted you) and you get nothing...the guy with the kill shot gets it all.

But oh no, Dice don't want to upset the elitist jet jockeys. There is an uproar on Twitter whenever there's even a whiff of any changes to their arcade jets (like to get the buggers online in "DCS: A10-C Warthog" and see how they go with me in a real simulated jet).

Ah, that feels better. Better than commenting on the Battfrog Forums....bunch of children:)

Missing on a lot of fun there Roderick! I started playing with Chosen One just a couple of days ago. Real fun when you got a team mate and mic to talk through in game.

And I'm not sure if Chosen would agree with you on nerfing airplanes Herod xD he likes flying and is good at it! :)

I like flying too, but as a ground pounder the balance is way, WAY off. But then it was in "BF2", and is why I stopped playing that game period. Don't have a problem with jets (except on Wake Is. where they should just stick to playing with each other intead of strafing boats), but it's the choppers that can dominate and completly ruin any fun on some maps within 5 mins. Then it's just a war of attrition (one-sided) until the ticker uns down.
If Csen's ;istening:
herodotus2006 (add me, you Ruski jet jock chump:D). I often play on German, UK and RU servers. The Oceanic ones are, I'm afraid no fun at all.
With the Aussies, it's every man/tank/jet/chopper/dog(?) for him/her/it-self. They're not averse to baserape either...often.
