Activision's Call of Duty claimed 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the Xbox Live chart for most played in 2011, with Halo: Reach and Battlefield 3 without medals 4th and 5th respectively.

Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim struck a mighty blow for RPGs managing 6th, with sports pinching 8th, 9th and 10th thanks to EA Sports' FIFA and Madden NFL franchises.

It was Black Ops that proved the most popular Call of Duty, followed by Modern Warfare 3 and then 2. Epic's Gears of War 3 landed 7th and GTA IV is still cool to play coming 11th.

Well consoles are all about the "fast fix" and instant gratification, reflective of today's way of life. Competitiveness is also a strong required element particularly against other "real" gamers (MP in other words) and you don't get that in a long SP RPG.
