Bethesda: Staff losses at id Software part of "standard business practice"

A staff reshuffling is going on at Rage developer id Software to ensure their numbers meet "needs of the studio," say Bethesda. A number of staff has been made redundant.

The Texas-based studio is still "recruiting and hiring qualified developers," with no ongoing projects suffering a setback. Rumours had swirled that shooter DOOM 4 had been binned.

"As part of its standard business practice, Id regularly evaluates staffing to ensure it has a workforce that meets the needs of the studio,” said Bethesda's PR guru, Pete Hines.

“As part of that process, some Id employees were recently let go. Id is still recruiting and hiring qualified developers, and development work on future Id titles continues unabated.” Studio numbers usually fluctuate after a major project has been released. What has fans a little worried is that Rage didn't do as well as hoped critically given id's pedigree.

Usual start of the year reorganistaion that most companies go through. never really a good time for the staff as sverences and redundancies are always on the cards. With "RAge" not performing as well as anticipated and the future of the next project uncertain, it's natural they'd be downsizing (or "Evaulat[ing] staffing" as Id put it).
