Magnetar Games has published a remake of the classic real-time strategy game, Dark Reign Redux, on Xbox Live Indie Games. The original was released 15 years ago in 1997.

Dark Reign Redux is a premium priced Indie title, costing 400 Microsoft Points ($5 USD), and supports 2-8 player online multiplayer, either via Xbox Live or system link. The game also supports 1024x768 resolution and features widescreen support.

Otherwise, the game is completely faithful to the PC title. For those of you interested in some nostalgia, the game's Xbox Live Marketplace page can be found here.

I remember this one being quite good at the time but not enough to actually remember what exactly made it good :)

It was the first RTS to have completely different sides.

That's probably it but i still feel like there was more than just that, probably not though. Nostalgia can play tricks on one's memory quite well.

It was a landmark game for that reason (unique units and strategies for the different sides), though I was more into "Dune II" and less so "Command & Conquer" at the time. RTS's were all the rage back then but "Age of Empires" came out a year later and stole many a strategist's heart...and soul.

From memory you fell into one of two Camps in the day. Either a "Dark Reign" or "Total Annihilation" supporter. I didn't get into either, but very much enjoyed "Dark Reign II" - brilliant landscapes and atmosphere (in gorgeous 3D). "Battlezone 2" was pretty spiffy as well.
The Glory Days of RTS and TBS.
