Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson is so devoted to the idea of helping Tim Schafer and Double Fine produce Psychonauts 2, he's pledged he could personally cover the entire $13M in development costs for the game.

According to Schafer, “As soon as I mentioned the amount of money (Persson) said, 'Yeah, I can do that.' He said he had no idea it would get picked up like this. He said, ‘Sorry for putting you on the spot, I didn’t realize it would go so big.' I feel like I was being proposed to on the jumbotron at the baseball game.”

Schafer also expressed a desire to work with Persson, even if the project wasn't Psychonauts 2, stating, "He’s been pretty successful. And, when you look into it, it’s a really inspiring story. He’s just a regular guy. He didn’t do anything sleazy to get it. He just made it himself, distributed it himself, it’s a great story. I think we have a lot to learn from him, so I’d like to do something with him." Schafer added, "And I’d like to make Psychonauts 2.”

Last week, Persson told Scahfer via Twitter, "@TimOfLegend Let's make Psychonauts 2 happen," after Schafer had openly complained, "I’d love to do that game, but I’d have to convince someone to just give me a few million dollars. That’s all.”

Great to see an Indie Dev who makes it to the big league, which "Minecraft" has done giving back to the industry he arose from. Tight knit community, the Indies.

This really is a cool turn of events, lets just hope they also succeed.
Unofortunately platformers are not my thing no matter how good they are so i'll have to pass.
