MMO publisher NCSoft has dropped a bomb today, as it has announced during its financial conference call that a console version of Guild Wars 2 is "in the preparation stage."

The confirmation came when NCSoft was asked about whether any of its games would be getting a console adaptation, to which the publisher answered, "When it comes to Guild Wars 2 as we have announced already, we are in the preparation stage."

Fans of the series who are worried that the PC version of the MMO will be "dumbed down" to accommodate the console version can rest assured that the PC MMO will be launched far in advance of its console cousin.

An open beta test of Guild Wars 2 will be commencing this upcoming Spring, in anticipation for a late 2012 release. The MMO had been undergoing a closed beta since late last year.

Good news for PC gamers (that the PC version is unaffected by this), and a great way to expand the audience and crack that nut that is "WoW" once and for all.
Well, one can dream....

Unless of course the console ideas have been there from the start because then they would have influenced the design of the game on such a basic level that will have effect on the PC game play...
