Infinity Ward has revealed that the developer is looking to release single player "story" DLC, but also reassured that it won't be a movement away from the usual multiplayer maps. In fact, the developer is promising larger, more expansive "sniper friendly" maps for multiplayer.
The first indication of the developer's intention was the phrase "campaign extension" in a recent Modern Warfare 3 trailer.
Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling stated in an interview, "The goal with these content drops is to do things we've never done before, really expand our horizons and our opportunities of what we consider DLC, because traditionally we've just done multiplayer maps."
He then added, "So that's what we are looking at, how we can take different perspectives on different (campaign) missions, give more context to a mission by showing you pretext before it or after it. We're exploring everything. I can't give you a specific schedule on it, but that's the logic behind it." Imagine the possibilities of playing single player on the other side of classic Modern Warfare maps.
Of course, traditional multiplayer maps will still be the backbone of the Call of Duty series, and Bowling is promising that the publisher will be releasing bigger maps.
"Since people have been enjoying putting hundreds of hours into the smaller maps, now as we're moving forward we are looking towards expanding that out, giving you bigger, more sniper-friendly maps with longer sightlines, so that's what the content drops are going to be focused on - doing something you're not already doing in Modern Warfare 3," promised Bowling, then cited the Central Park-themed Liberation map as "the first step in that direction."
The next map to be released for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be , which was detailed two weeks ago.
