The Witcher 2 PC enjoyed 1.1M sales in first 7 months

CD Projekt RED has announced that the PC version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings earned more than 1.1M in sales during the game's first seven months of release since its launch on the 17th May of last year.

The company estimates roughly 24% of the sales were through digital distribution channels. According to their figures, 270 thousand came via digital distribution channels, with 40 thousand of those sold by CD Projekt RED's subsidiary GOG.com.

The publisher also revealed that over 400,000 gamers purchased the original The Witcher in 2011 as well.

"We were all incredibly surprised by the number of copies sold. The Witcher 2 has garnered over 60 industry awards, and gamers seem to love it. I have to admit, though, that the sales results for The Witcher, 5 years on from the game's premier, are remarkable. If anything, they prove that the content we put into our games ages well. I think that The Witcher will continue to generate buzz in the coming years," stated studio head Adam Badowski.

Xbox 360 gamers will be able to enjoy The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition on the 17th April, with a PC version of the Enhanced Edition being released on shelves as well. Current PC owners of The Witcher 2 will be able to update their version to the Enhanced Edition for free.

The Enhanced Edition features about 4 hours of additional content set in new locations and featuring new characters. It will also incorporate a significant number of new animations and cinematics, including a new introductory cutscene directed by BAFTA winner and Academy Award nominee Tomasz Bagiński.

1.1M sales is a drop in the bucket compared to console sales. The Witcher 2 got pirated the heck out of (especially since they released a no-DRM version.)

Not enough money IMO - the Witcher franchise and the company are simply among the top both categories. Lovely support and passion for their games.

Too bad that they kinda rubbed the pirates the wrong way - don't challenge the beast - don't adress it - save your money and effort to give the ones who give you money the best experience - that is the only way - and even a good game and great support isn't always enough to make a game into a blockbuster.
Life isn't fair and all that - that's just how it is...
