Valve has announced that the next-generation of the mega-popular multiplayer team shooter, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, will be coming out this Summer for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The publisher also released some screenshots showing off the new engine, in one level that apparently takes place in a suburban setting.

Valve has promised that CS:GO will feature more new maps, characters and game modes, as well as improved matchmaking, a leaderboard systems and offline play against bots.

Interesting. And after playing BF3 a lot, I think that this type of game has a lot to prove, but being a bit more action oriented and quick while still serving a portion of tactic need could be great.

Well, it's sometimes refreshing that if you get killed, no respawn.

@ChosenOne...Are you freakin serious...BF3 was an epic fail...And COD is getting repetitive as all hell...You must be 12 because counterstrike is the standard for professional and real gamers...Actually im glad you will not be playing cs go...

@ 904RiotFamily - ease up dude - a tough attitude might make you "cool" in some games chat windows but here you will just make less friends. If you don't agree - just state so. No need to go all fan-boi on each other.

Just saying.

Agreed, there is no need to make harsh statements just because you don't agree with someone.

I don't quite agree with this quote: "counterstrike is the standard for professional and real gamers". What in the world is a "real" gamer?

Though Counter-Strike is a great game, I think that it lost its touch when games like Battlefield and Call of Duty became more popular. People still play the game everyday, I am sure, but it is not as great as it used to be (respectfully stating).

I have got both CoD and CS, and in all honesty, I get bored quite quickly when playing CS. A classic game, but not as fun anymore.

Well there is merit since CS is the game that broke gaming into the big leagues of tournament pay with large money sums to it is also one of the biggest games ever competed in. Just check the date on when it first came and see how long it has lasted. At least of the FPS scheme. There were tournmanets before - but not that big and only with smaller sums...

Anyone willing to comment on the new CS:GO article? :p

There's a vote there, too. :D

Don't see the vote...
However, I think that this summer has to have some bad weather periods for gaming... ;)

lol I do agree with the whole 'hate' thing being un-nessesary, but the dudes got a point - there hasn't been an fps game to date that compares competitively to counter-strike.. it may be outdated but the money and sponsorship that STILL surrounds cs 1.6 is far greater than games like cod and battlefield. Not hating - I've played cod and bf and they were good for an hour of fun. But not something I would consider investing time in to master.

just sayin

Well I do agree jbplann - espacially as an old gamer - CS is still kicking up some nerve ends that fell asleep ;)
