Crysis developer Crytek have aired their latest technical demo for CryEngine 3, showing off very fancy features especially its tessellation capabilities - the one where textures appear bumpy.

Back in 2007 when Crysis released it became 'the' benchmark for PC gamers to have their hardware jump hoops for. Crysis 2 is powered by CryEngine 3; a patch added DX11 support.

Check out the video below for Crytek's updated sales pitch for CryEngine 3 where they try to explain what those fancy tech words mean to us ignorant villagers. Pretty enough?

Crytek are becoming the new ID, great tech but little else.
At least that's how i'm gonna see them if their next game doesn't change the downward trend.

Looks very good, however Unreal 4 Engine will be the one used most as the commercial engine going on past history. "Crysis" was really a tech demo in the same, though expanded upon way that "Unreal 3" was for the then latest Unreal engine. Be a great modding engine, though.

Wow... I must admit that the engine looks outstanding... things are becoming more and more realistic.

Games should not looks like reality, but, I like the quality of this version of Cry engine. More than usual game visuals, less than reality. Golden mean.

I don't know, i would like to see life-like GFX in my lifetime, the sooner the better.

Developers would still be able to use different styles. Anime are a good example of that, you have many different art styles eventhough they all have the ability to use the same technology.

I'd take the holodeck anytime over what we have now :).

Out with it, nocutius. You just want them to bring virtual hookers out. Man, stand in line:)
