Electronic Arts have announced Nucleus which is to be built into all future EA Sports titles as well as making an appearance in Spore and Battlefield: Heroes.

Nucleus can cross the platforms and provides a gaming community where you can track each other's scores, earn achievements and even think up your own challenges for friends.

Shawn Fanning, the creator of Napster, appeared on stage to talk a little about the custom achievement system using the Rupture Network that EA purchased only last month. Using an open API formed from the Lua script language, gamers will be able to create their challenges and put them to friends all across Nucleus.

Micro transaction services will also likely feature for games like Battlefield: Heroes, where you could buy more guns, maps or even outfits.

PC, Xbox360 and PS3 are the hottest and sure-fire contenders for Nucleus - no word on other platforms.

avatar Yeah, sounds like a Steam that includes consoles.
I hate Steam, even though I love Valve games.
I have always felt that games should be stand alone entities, without any external requirement to be played.
But that is just my opinion.
