Blizzard has officially announced today that Diablo III will be released for the PC on 15th May, 2012.

Presales have already started, which allows fans to reserve their digital copies from the official website.

“After many years of hard work by our development team and months of beta testing by hundreds of thousands of dedicated players around the world, we’re now in the homestretch,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We look forward to putting the final polish on Diablo III over the next two months and delivering the ultimate action-RPG experience to gamers worldwide starting on May 15.”

Diablo 3 will be priced at £44.99 for both the retail version and the digital version sold directly from Blizzard. A special alabaster-white Collector’s Edition, exclusive to retail stores, will be sold for £69.99 and includes the full game on DVD, a behind-the-scenes Blu-ray/DVD two-disc set, the Diablo III soundtrack CD, a 208-page Art of Diablo III book, and a 4 GB USB soulstone (including full versions of Diablo II and Diablo II: Lord of Destruction) and corresponding Diablo skull base, as well as exclusive in-game content for Diablo III, World of Warcraft, and StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty.

That collectors edition would be great for the next competition XD

Mein Got! Do people really pay that kind of money for games???? That's the price of my family's shopping for the week....(£70 ~ 80 euros)
By nocutius (SI Elite) on Mar 15, 2012
Finally a release date but i'm not buying this game untill we get a clear picture about how real money auction house is gonna effect things.

I think that a lot of the people who buy the expensive collectors edition are die hard Diablo fans that aren't going to leave their basement to buy another game in years anyway. For them the price is just fine...

Totally ready for it! New GFX card, new mouse. Keyboard missing a few keys but that is nothing to worry about.

We have a collectors edition piece for Alan Wake for the next competition btw. But it's only 1... It's not Diablo Collectors Edition but it's Collectors Edition djole :p

Ah another collector's edition to add to my collection....
*evil laugh

Nice, Alan Wake.
That means i won't regret winning the current competition :)

Not even they have the balls to change the release date at this point, imagine the chaos if they did :)
By SiyaenSokol (SI Elite) on Mar 16, 2012
Nah, I doubt that they would change the date. As nocutius said, there would surely be chaos all around the world. I am just glad that a release date finally came, though we have to wait a while, but it is fine, before we know it, it will be May 15th... then I think that I am going to be disappearing for a while ;)

Well, something to look forward to if one don't win in the competition today then ;)

Regarding Diablo III - I'm seriously behind in my game stack already. BF3 and Skyrim have taken too much time from me and I'm starting to realize that I actully don't think that BF3 is all that... It is a fearful day when you realize that you miss BLOPS ;)

Diablo 3 will be bought - but at the cheapest place I can get - I'm no fan of the always online crap right now and the game just doesn't get me started.... this however....
Almost made me start crying...

I'm looking forward to Baldur's Gate as well, i missed it for some reason at the time it was released so this will be a golden chance to finally play it.

I'll be getting it, but like you Wolfy I'm not into the "constant connection" attempt at DRM some games have these days. If the servers go down, the game goes down. Yes I know Steam offers offline play however games that use GFWL, UPlay, EA's "C&C 3&4/RA 3" and Blizzard's "Starcraft" are buggered. So far Ubisoft are the only ones that have had this happen, infrequent as it is but if you travel a lot then these are not the games to take with you.

I won't be getting the CE either, just the game. I'll put the extra dosh toward a GTX 590 or even the new 600 series, and another coupla sticks 'o RAM.

KRES: "Alan Wake" comp - instead of "I'm in", have the entrants write somethnig creative. "If faced with Alan Wake's challenge (whatever it might be) wjhat would you do different", or something along those lines. There is only one copy after all, as you say - make us work for it:)

Trying to make things difficult now that you can't enter the competition?
Naughty, naughty :)
By FoolWolf (SI Elite) on Mar 18, 2012
I'm with hero on that competition idea - why not make it some sort of spin off idea and then all the readers could vote for the best idea somehow or you could be the voting panel of course :)
By Kres (SI Elite) on Mar 18, 2012
It's no prob to complicate things on the competition side but we found out that whenever we do something like that, the applications for competitions drop significantly. Hence why we keep things simple. We could try to spice things up for Alan Wake though and see what happens. As you say, it's only one.
By djole381 (SI Elite) on Mar 18, 2012
For the love of God Kres, please don't complicate things for Alan Wake comp... XD

Haha, Chosen. The new Forums Moderator position is already having dibs put on it:)
Back on topic....well, there's nothing more to say....*bum*

So, Off-topic (again) many sites, not just gaming sites have comps that use creative input as the entry requirement. others have questions regarding the game and it's storyline that you need to answer to be "in". I like the latter, as it just means the entrant needs to do a bit of research and if you really want the game, and not just any old freebie you'll do it. It's not hard, and is actually popular with entrants.

Oh nocutius, I'll give you a hand mate:)
By nocutius (SI Elite) on Mar 19, 2012
I can't enter either :)
