Baldur's Gate is back, as Atari has officially announced Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition and Baldur's Gate II Enhanced Edition, for release this Summer 2012.

There is no other information about the games save the titles, but the "enhanced edition" seems to indicate they'll be the same original Baldur's Gate titles - but with updated graphics, sound, widescreen format and HD resolution.

The original Baldur's Gate was released in November 1998, and the Baldur's Gate bundleware which contains both games and both expansions is still a very popular purchase. A basic Baldur's Gate with a new coat of paint would be a wonderful way to bring BioWare's classic RPG back into the public consciousness.

I actually never played the game at the time and now the gfx looks a bit difficult to immerse myself into so a HD version would deffinitely help.

This is one of those games I never played when I was younger. I heard many great stories about this game, but today it is too outdated for me. I love my old games, but only the ones I grew up with.

I envy you - you have so much too look forward to if you like RPG's and the Faerun Dungeons 6 Dragons setting - if you don't it is still worth a shot because this is one of the best written games there is. The stories and the romances, the adventures and side quests.
The main plot is great and the game will give you a rather huge possibility to customize your gaming experience with using a multitude of classes and kits and you can dual multi class how you want. If they are in for making the game moddable - wow - then this is huge. I just hope they don't do anything stupid with the release.

honestly - this could be the best piece of gaming news for me this decade!

Seems that they actually could own them - there is a rather large debate on who owns the rights to PST - but anyway - if this goes well whoever owns them could be interested in doing a HD re-release. *ever the dreamer* ;)

My buddy in college was always encouraging me to play Baldur's Gate, saying how awesome it was. That was.. yeah late 1990's.. hmm. I can buy BG on GG fairly cheaply, was considering it.. but now I think I'll wait for the enhanced version. Good move!
