Despite dismal sales, Grasshopper Manufacture wants to developer a sequel to the audacious Shadows of the Damned, and thinks Electronic Arts would be up for it as well.
The game was a collaboration between Grasshopper's Suda 51, Resident Evil game designer Shinji Mikami, and Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka, but despite the high profile Japanese talent, the game was a disastrous retail flop, selling a paltry 24,000 units in its first month in the US alone. Worse, the game failed to move in Japan, where it sold just over 9,000 units in its first week there.
When asked if the bad sales were a barrier to developing a sequel, Yamaoka replied, "I'm thinking of a sequel, actually. I can't tell you here, but clearly I'd like to."
However, when asked if EA would be interested in funding a sequel despite the sales, he answered defensively "Probably," then added, "Well, yes."
Strategy Informer loved the shlocky Shadows of the Damned, awarding it a 9.3/10 score in its rave .
Grasshopper's latest project, Sine Mora, was released yesterday on Xbox Live Arcade.
