Deep Silver has been forced to change the cover for Risen 2: Dark Waters in North America after The Entertainment Software Ratings Board deemed it too graphic.
As you can see in the image below, the original packshot contained red paint that could be seen as excessive blood, which goes against the rating boards marketing guidelines. The publisher has changed the red paint to a light blue to solve this problem.
"The color backdrop to the game's skull was changed to comply with ESRB guidelines pertaining to elements that could possibly be interpreted as blood," said a Deep Silver representative in a statement to .
"These changes pertain only to the artwork for North America - all of our other territories will use the original artwork."
Risen 2: Dark Waters is out in North America on April 27th for PC and May 22nd for PlayStation and Xbox 360. It will be released for consoles in Europe on 25th May.
