Assassin's Creed III for PC 'should be played with a controller'

Ubisoft's creative director Alex Hutchinson has said to get the most out of Assassin's Creed III for PC you're better off plugging in a game controller, than using keyboard and mouse.

They're "definitely supporting PC," but "it'll be PC with a controller." Hutchinson says he doesn't see the studio "investing hugely" in a keyboard and mouse approach to the game.

The Ubisoft exec believes that if you want to play ACIII on PC, "you have a controller." There are just some games that don't translate well and this series is one of them.

Frankly Assassin's Creed relies of the nuance an analogue stick can give you, and then of course there's the convenience of having all the action buttons mapped within easy reach. Given the huge amount of freestyle running and combat in ACIII, the keyboard and mouse aren't the best of options.

"We're definitely supporting PC," Alex Hutchinson told Gamespy. "We love PC, but I think it'll be PC with a controller. I don't see us investing hugely in a mouse and keyboard setup. I think if you want to play on PC and you want to play Assassin's Creed, you have a controller." Rest assured though it will support keyboard and mouse.

Assassin's Creed 3 releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC October 31st.

So, an ambition-free lazy port that can't even be bothered to put mouse support on the menu screen then? Keep on ostracizing the PC community Ubisoft!

No. Some genres are simply BETTER with a controller. Ever try to play a sports title with a keyboard and mouse? Racing games are just BRUTAL with a keyboard/mouse.

It seems to me you'll need fine control when, say, walking, and only an analog stick can do that, not a keyboard.

Umm.. Jonah, not to totally disagreeing with you - but seriously - walking?
Analog stick for walking and not keyboard?

What kind of games do you play on PC where you DON'T walk? ;)

Fighting games I would say is a better example. Walking only in 3D platformers like Tombraider.

The original "AC" was a bugger of a game with the M&K for me, with far too many weird keybindings to remember to fast interaction. Go away for a month and you'd have to learn them all over again. This series really is designed for the console and/or a PC controller, unfortunately. Controllers are for sports and driving games ONLY for me.
