Yes the world is truly an enlightened place as the Blaze company have reconstituted the power and charm of the Mega Drive into a 'modern' handheld.

Just like any other handheld today it comes with built-in speakers and colour LCD, plus a TV-out connection - with cult games like Sonic and Knuckles, Golden Axe and Alien Storm!

This retro handheld can be yours for the princely sum of £29.99, and some triple-A batteries.

Sonic and Knuckles, Columns, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Shinobi, Alex Kidd - Enchanted Castle, Ecco the Dolphin, Alien Storm, Arrow Flash, Crackdown, Decap Attack, Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Ecco Junior, Flicky, Gain Ground, Jewel Master, Kid Chameleon, Sonic Spinball and Shadow Dancer.

Click here to see a tease of the handheld.

WARNING! This clip could induce a retro spasm causing you to forsake those shiny next-gen consoles for the simpler days of yore - consider yourself warned gamer.

16 whole bits! Yes - sixteen, not eight!
