In the wake of the great Mass Effect 3 Ending Scandal 2012, Bioware has announced a free DLC pack that will expand upon the events of the finale.

Through additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes, players will receive greater clarity on the much-loathed conclusion.

Bioware Co-founder, and General Manager of EA's Bioware Label, Ray Muzyka, had this to say:

"Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans and we are responding. With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team's artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe."

The DLC will be available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC free of charge.

Good, anything but free would be a slap in the face.

wow... i really hoped Bioware wouldn't do something as sleasy as that...bloody bootlickers.

They don't really have a choice, the outrage is simply too universal.

No, its a fraction of the ME3 gamers that have whined about the endings (Numbered in the thousands). While most people have accepted the endings (Millions).

I hope ending will be more meaningful this time.

It's worth noting that there won't be a new ending, simply more information on the current one.

PapVogel I don't know, i have a feeling that most people are not satisfied with the ending and those that accept it simply gave up.
It's not about absolute numbers it's about relative ones, vast majority of people that voice their opinion on various forums are giving a negative one, at least that's how i perceive it.

I haven't seen as single person say that the ending was good but tons of people that say it's bad. Not so much the ending itself but the lack of connection to your own actions.

@Nocutius I for one didn't mind the ending, mostly because the rest of the game was awesome. And when you read through all the incoherent "whine about ending threads" on the forums, your brain farted and you lost all interest in actually trying to discuss it with said whiners. So i think that most people just didn't want to pick the fight with the ones who were outraged..

Sounds like the endings won't be exactly changed - you'll just get to see the results of your actions.

Because the biggest complaint was that NOTHING you did made any difference. All of the endings were functionally the same and none of the events (quarians, geth, etc) made any difference. The only people who DIDN'T mind the endings were people with no attachment to the characters or story.

I remember when Casey Hudson bragged, BRAGGED that the endings wouldn't be like Deus Ex: Human Revolution in which you pressed button A, button B, or button C. Nope. Instead, it was "Red", "Green" or "Blue" buttons. heh

The fact is, it's kind of obvious EA forced the game out early. Because everything Hudson and BioWare said about the game turned out to be wrong - and they don't strike me as liars.

@ "wow... i really hoped Bioware wouldn't do something as sleasy as that...bloody bootlickers."

How do you know the endings were what BioWare wanted? If you knew EA gave them a release date after the game was delayed and said, "RELEASE IT ON MARCH 6 OR ELSE", forcing them to rush the endings, would you have a different opinion?

@PapVogel I disagree. Most threads/discussions about the ME3 ending are very civil and it's quite clear just how plot hole-ridden the ending is currently. Of course, some people took enjoyment from the ending, but I assure you that only a very small fraction of longtime Mass Effect fans liked it.

And frankly, it's obvious that the "whiners" are not in the minority from the fact that BioWare are actually acting on this. If it had been a small number of people, they would have had no reason to do anything, eventually the haters would shut up and most would keep on shilling the cash.

@Unsilviu The reason that bioware acts on this is because EA is afraid its going to hurt their bankaccount. Bioware earlier stated that they didn't want to change endings, or even release any ending DLC because they were happy with their products.

And plotholes? I didn't really see any plotholes, what i have seen however is people seeing things that are not there, just like conspiration theorists do in the US...

But what do i care, i get some free DLC that i never needed in the first place.

So cinematic sequences and dialogues - is that it? Not worth the large amount of cash EA will be wanting for this.
I'll wait for the film....

It will actually be free of charge :)
I don't believe even EA would have the balls to charge for this one.

Bet they will, in some form or another. Perhaps not for this DLC, but I'll bet a few extra dollars are added for the next if they don't here. That's the way of EA.

herod: It'll be free til April 14, 2013.

I stopped playing ME 3 for several reasons (running animation was one of em too) and of course my brother finished this game and in rage he came to me saying how angry he is at EA and BioWare, how he is disappointed..after this I decided to stop playing it until they will do something with that ending...I just didn't wish to play Mass Defect 3...and here they are...proposing their apologies and saying to us that they will fix that for free...I am glad that I didn't saw the original endings...

Not sure I care - I never really liked ME3 that much to begin with. I have had a sinking feeling with BioWare even before they joined EA and with EA - they have turned out to be a story telling game company. ME2 is the best game of DA:O, DA2, ME and ME2 - and that game is OK in my book. The step towards the consoles and the cinematic storytelling of the Jade Effect and KOTOR was the first step in the wrong direction for me as a gamer. Nice stories - but I rather see a movie in the KOTOR universe then paying them...

What you just mentioned as downsides are actually what most people love about BioWare :P

Enjoying the story arcs in "TOR", but I have to say that my experience with that and "ME" has shown the dialogue choices are often misleading - not "as advertised". You think an answer is the correct and best one, yet it comes off as sounding like smart arse and you are regailed for it. They can be quite cryptic.

I know unsilviu - that's the beauty of things ;) we all think different and some of us have defined our tastes and what we don't like. I don't like the illusion of being in control all the way until I realise that for all I do - it will turn out the same. If that is the case - skip the illusions and make the path worthwhile.

I have said for many years that BioWare should make a movie - and skip next PC game. I think that they would make a wonderful movie that is actually really great and Star Wars feel at the same time ;) Something George Lucas is struggling with - even though he has some years advantage...

I also think that I get enough of stories from all the books I read, when gaming - I want to game. Some games with immense story are great but rarely original these days. The mainstream media isn't taking any chances so there is a few decent stories that are OK - but not great. You'r not going to stumble over a Wheel of Times or a Game of Thrones in any new games today - unless they are slowly emerging under the radar...
At least that is my POV right now. BioWare and Black Isle really had some things going and where right on time with many of their games. Baldurs Gate and Planescape Torment were leading a sort of revival of D&D, KOTOR came perfectly with the Star Wars timing and also embracing the consoles. Fallout, Wasteland. Genius - now look at Rage and other games and you go - same same but slightly different.

I had high hopes for DA - but seeing how that turned out it is a bleak watered down RPG. It holds no depth compared to what has been released already. The universe was supposed to be new and dark and ohh and ahh - it is a meh and a bah in my opinion. It feels uninhabited and the enemeies comes in a few shapes. DA:O at least had some variations to the combat compared to DA2 which was a boring grind of the exact same setup all the time. No - BioWare and EA has a lot to prove. I hope that mustering some energy to go play my installed not yet started ME3 will give some hours of fun before the end.
