PAX East 2012: Bulletstorm 2 was shelved months ago

Epic Games president Mike Capps revealed that developer People Can Fly had started initial development on a sequel to Bulletstorm, but the game was shelved before any serious work began on it. This revelation came during an interview at PAX East 2012 in Boston, MA.

Capps related, "We thought a lot about a sequel, and had done some initial development on it, but we found a project that we thought was a better fit for People Can Fly." What is the project? "We haven't announced that yet, but we will be announcing it pretty soon," he said.

That's not to say there won't be a Bulletstorm 2 in the future, as he expressed a desire "to go back (to Bulletstorm)," then stating. "I think there's more to do with Bulletstorm. Heck, it kind of ended wanting more. I'd love to see another project, but right now we don't have anything to talk about."

Despite generally positive reviews, the original Bulletstorm didn't sell well enough for Electronic Arts' tastes.

"I think Bulletstorm was very critically successful, and I think a lot of folks really enjoyed seeing something new. From a sales perspective it was good, but not amazing. I think EA was hoping we'd do better," Capps sighed.

The PC version fared worse, partly due to the massive amount of piracy its suffered, but also because it was a console port.

"We made a PC version of Bulletstorm, and it didn't do very well on PC and I think a lot of that was due to piracy," related Capps, "It wasn't the best PC port ever, sure, but also piracy was a pretty big problem."

Bulletstorm was released over a year ago in February 2011 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and received a stellar 9.5/10 review from Strategy Informer's review.

I haven't even played Bulletstorm yet, but it does seem good. Any suggestions?

The game is awesome. I really hope they make a sequel someday.

The game is definately one of 2011 best shooters by far. The over-the-top cursing and sexual references are archaic at best and annoying most of the time, but the action is full throttle and fun. The MP part is via MS matchmaking - so it isn't that great and when I played it, it was usually awful with lag and bad servers..

But the game is good ol shooting fun.

AGAIN, I have to compliment you guys at strategyinformer.com... I've never seen so many news articles on one site before, and so much else too... I said before that this site reminded me of PCZone, my favourite PC magazine from the old days.. but that was a monthly magazine... This site is so much better, it's like having PCZone every WEEK!
