Eidos Montreal GM Stephane D’Astous has said Thief 4 will be about more than "just stealth".

It seems the title is being developed in a similar fashion to Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which included classic gameplay elements and a host of additions that evolved the formula of the original.

"will be about more than "just stealth"."

That means there will hardly be any reason for stealth...I've heard that line before damnit.

...will be about more than "just stealth" = we're making the game primarily for the console market.

I don't mind if you're able to take down a guard here and there in a head-on battle, but it has to be more of an exception. If they make this too much into an action game it won't be Thief anymore.

I have got the Thief Games, but haven't made any effort into playing it yet. Though I know that it is a tough game, and action is something that is rarely seen, which is also why it is so incredibly hard.

I also agree, that once you change a game like this into a action game, then it gets ruined.

If it means that your super thief won't be too afraid of actually fighting one or even later on two guards then OK.

Plain stealth has its fun moments, but like Deus Ex HR - it is when you can fail and have options that things get interesting IMO.

'Thief: The Metal Age" was tremendous fun once you worked out the stealth dynamics and strategies required to complete missions.
with the console toy boys in mind however, I fear "Thief 4" will be similar only in name.
