Splash Damage's multiplayer class-based shooter Brink sold more than 2.5M worldwide, according to CEO Paul Wedgewood. The game was published by Bethesda, but the developer has now instituted its own publishing wing, WarChest.

The reason for the move is simply to earn the money their games generate. "With Splash Damage, we finished Brink, and it's estimated to have sold more than 2.5 million units worldwide, which at retail would mean that it's generated around $120-140 million in revenue," Westwood revealed.

"But of course, as an independent video game developer, we don't earn that kind of revenue, as we're not the publisher of the title," he continued, "But we could see there was the potential to serve our fans content directly, and while we don't want to take anything away from what Splash Damage does, we wanted a vehicle that we can dedicate exclusively to that pursuit."

Brink was released in May 2011 and earned average reviews, including a 6.0/10 from Strategy Informer's review. The game also suffered technical issues on release as well, especially on the console versions.
