Publisher EA has issued a statement confirming that job losses will be taking place, in a "very small number", at their EA Montreal outfit. They're casualties of "reorganising some teams".

However "many will be assigned" to other projects, they said, with the remaining set to "leave the company." Despite this loss of staff EA expect headcount overall "will be up" by 2012's end.

This news come after EA recently denied there were to be massive layoffs, as they dismissed the rumour and said they were in flux much like anybody else. Focusing on digital.

"EA Montreal is reorganising some teams to focus on digital initiatives, including new mobile and social projects," stated the publisher's corporate communications to

"These are routine changes which address the cyclical nature of the game industry. A very small number of employees will be impacted – many will be assigned to new projects at EA, others will leave the company."

“Overall, we expect that EA's headcount will be up at the end of this year.”

EA Montreal has worked on video games Army of Two, Boogie, Skate It and others. A source claimed as high as 50 developers were to be let go but the number appears less.
