Rumor: BioShock Infinite getting multiplayer
Posted: 10.05.2012 05:23 by Comments: 2
It seems that one of the reasons BioShock Infinite has been pushed from an October to a February release is that Irrational is adding multiplayer to the sequel. The evidence is a new job listing on Gamasutra from Irrational looking for a network programmer.

The listing is calling for a network programmer who has "shipped at least one commercial network-connected game title, preferably on a console" and "previous experience developing network backend support on a multi-console title with support for matchmaking, stat tracking and analysis, in-game push updates, etc."

While the ad could be for a programmer to interface for, say, downloadable content delivery, the matchmaking and star tracking are the smoking gun for traditional multiplayer.

If there is multiplayer, will it resemble that of BioShock 2? Regardless, 2K Games may be instructing Irrational to add multiplayer to combat used game sales.

Stay tuned.

Hmm, I can't say I'm particularly excited about multiplayer, I think I played Bioshock 2's multiplayer once to see what it was like.

If I want multiplayer I'll play something like Battlefield that is designed from the ground up as a multiplayer game, rather than a game with multiplayer tacked on at the end to tick a.publishers box.

Agreed. One game that had a fun MP part IMO was Space Marine - but even so it felt very small and short lived due to a limited number of maps and then the DLC inferno started to squeeze the money out it become even more of a hassle to find a game and then being kicked for not having the right map pack etc etc ... blah and meh.
