Blizzard today announced that only 24 hours after release, more than 3.5 million copies of Diablo III had been sold, setting a new all-time record for fastest-selling PC game.

That number does not include more than 1.2 million players who received Diablo III as part of signing up for the World of Warcraft Annual Pass promotion. In total, more than 4.7 million players received the game on day one, confirming the biggest PC launch in history.

Within the first week, this number had already grown to 6.3 million players. This doesn't include players in Korean Internet game rooms where the title has become a huge hit. As of 22nd May, 39% of Korean players were spending time with Blizzard's product.

"We're definitely thrilled that so many people around the world were excited to pick up their copy of Diablo III and jump in the moment it went live," announced Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment.

"We also regret that our preparations were not enough to ensure everyone had a seamless experience when they did so. I want to reaffirm our commitment to make sure the millions of Diablo III players out there have a great experience with the game moving forward, and I also want to thank them for their ongoing support."

Looks to be a good game (I would not say "great", as for an 11 year wait this is only just acceptable) and ffrom what I've seen looks very much like an isometric MMO. The early review from IGN focused way too much on the Loot System, bemoaning the fact that the Auction House was not up and running yet (SI will do much better, I'm sure).
Still, as mentioned already, after all this time I'd expect this to be the best PC game of all damn time...but it isn't and that is one more strike against Blizzard's dinosaur development timetable. Step it up Blizz, and get them out the door. This is a "fast food" society (instant gratification and always craving the next "big" thing) and "DIII", no matter how good will be yesterday's game in a month for all but the hardcore.

I also agree, that for an 11 year wait, more could've been accomplished... but none the less, I am just thankful that I don't have to wait another year, or even month for this to be released.

Anyways, though it may not be the greatest game, it sure is one of the best I have had to play in quite some time. Very few RPG games get my attention as much as Diablo III did. Though I must also admit that I have been a fan since Diablo 1, and I love the lore.

I am just thankful that the game was a success. A lot of gamers complain, even those that have not played it before (got that on Starcraft II last night), but I suggest trying the game first. I was skeptical at first as well, but the deeper I got into the game, the more I enjoyed it.

Looking at the Character Select screen and the game maps I see "DoW II" stamped all over this. All too late n ow, as "DoW III" will kick this, let alobe the next "SC II" chapter out the bloody airlock.
