According to Rhode Island governor Lincoln Chafee in a prsess conference, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning needed 3M sales just to break even. The game sold "1.22 million copies in its first 90 days," according to 38 Studios head Curt Schilling, but that wasn't enough.

"The game failed, the game failed," summarized Chafee.

For Big Huge Games, it was merely a three year long stay of execution, as the developer was seriously suffering financially when 38 Studios acquired it.

However, 38 Studios was founded by ex-major league baseball pitcher Schilling in 2006 with the aim of publishing an MMO. Big Huge Games offered 38 Studios a roleplaying game the smaller developer had been pitching to publishers, which eventually became Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

38 Studios had been working on an MMO, Project Copernicus. The property remains the developer's lone asset, and will probably be auctioned off to the highest bidder at some point.

Strategy Informer awarded Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning an 8.0/10 score in its review.

Wouldve though Curt Schilling couldve afforded to personally bankroll a game project with his baseball money alone.

I would've thought that this game sold much more. I thought about buying this game, but I was worried that I might not enjoy it enough.
