A job posting over at Gamasutra has 2K Boston looking for a lead multiplayer designer to work on their "next big project." 2K Marin leads the charge on the sequel.
It's fanned rumours because the position notes that applicants should "be familiar with BioShock and other 2K Boston/Irrational products". Promising, or straw clutching?
"BioShock had no multi-player mode. We don't believe in throwing in something that can't go head to head with the big boys. No applicants will be considered who aren't able to demonstrate they've got the skills to build an industry-changing multiplayer design," read the - fuelling volatile speculation further.
"We aren't prepared to announce or discuss any features for BioShock 2 at this time," a 2K rep has told .
"In regards to the recent job posting for 2K Boston and the speculation it has created, I'll just remind everyone that in our earnings call on March 11, we announced that BioShock 2 would be developed at our 2K Marin studio."
It's not unheard of that a separate development studio has handled the multiplayer component for a game, take Ubi's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow for example.
Of course Ken Levine over at 2K Boston has now and has poached some top BioShock talent. He was rather clear to point out that his new project is not BioShock 2.
