Electronic Arts announced in their E3 press conference today that Criterion Games, who developed Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, will be working on their second game for the longtime racing series, Need for Speed: Most Wanted. The game will retain the original title's cops-and-robbers chase mechanic while infusing it with Criterion's signature Burnout-style action.

The game will feature an open world where players can drive around looking for hidden gameplay, take down their rivals, challenge friends to various types of races, or just see how many cops they can annoy.

The game will make extensive use of the next generation of the Autolog social networking feature that debuted in Hot Pursuit, Autolog 2. Everything the player does will be uploaded to a leaderboard comprised of their friends. Autolog 2 lets players know who in their circle had the quickest times, the longest jumps, the longest police chases, and so on. Autolog 2 will also make suggestions to the player, from suggesting multiplayer sessions tailored to the player and their friends to tips on how to maximize their car's performance.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted will be released on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on the 30th October in North America and the 1st November worldwide.

It's not a sequel, it's a reboot.

Saw it at EA's press conference. It was smoking hot.
