E3 2012: EA shows off Dead Space 3 gameplay, coming Winter 2013

Electronic Arts formally introduced their upcoming horror game Dead Space 3, as protagonist Isaac Clarke finds himself stranded on a wintry ice planet Tau Volantis. The game will not only introduce new Necrmorphs and gigantic boss creatures, but drop-in, drop-out co-op as friends can take on the role of Earthgov Sergeant John Carver.

The co-op was demoed on stage, as Isaac and John found themselves dealing with a monstrous ice worm creature that ravaged a firefight between the pair and a group of Unitologists, before being swallowed whole by the creature, and received a first hand look at its digestive system.

Electronic Arts also released the official trailer, as seen in the video below. Dead Space 3 will be released in the Winter 2013 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Not sure how the fear factor will hold up with co-op based combat. Don't forget that FEAR tried that in its most recent installment. Co-op Dead Space sounds like a detour towards Resident Evil 5: mutant baddies to take down with a wit-spitting side kick to help you. I guess we'll have to wait and see, though.

I also think that the game will loose it's fear factor... but it will sure make the game a whole lot of fun to play.

We will just have to wait and see.

You've got a point Chosen_One. Not all games should have a Co-Op feature, especially most of the survival horror games, since it actually ruins the horror factor.

I also agree that Dead Space 2 wasn't quite new. Sure you had some scary scenes, but basically it was a copy of Dead Space 1. Yes, I know that it is the same title, and the story is suppose to follow, but none the less, very few things felt different.... of course other than the fact that your mouse feels a whole lot better to use.

It will sell, and that's the bottom line for EA (not if the game is actually any good - "Dragon Age 2" and "Crysis 2" kinda proved that point).
I just looked forward to the Anime mini feature that will accompany it.

Play it in 3d anaglyph on a 4 m LCD projector and it will be the best you have ever seen Dead Space 1 or 2!
