Breaking News: Vivendi may sell Activision-Blizzard
Posted: 07.06.2012 16:53 by JonahFalcon Comments: 27
French-based media conglomerate Vivendi is reportedly going to host a senior executive meeting later this month to discuss the sale of its 61% stake in Activision-Blizzard.

The report comes out of Bloomberg News, which is citing the testimony of anonymous sources that the company is interest in selling its declining stock, which has fallen from around €19 to around €13 in the past year.

Since the publication of the story, however, Vivendi itself enjoyed a boost in stock price to €13.80.

Vivendi has downplayed the senior executive meeting, stating that it's been a yearly practice since 2005, and that there's no fixed agenda this year for the meeting.

Stay tuned.

Why would they want to sell someone that makes them such huge amounts of money?

As you can see, they only let this rumor out to boost the price of their stocks.

Agreed with djole here,i mean the purpose of a corporation is to make money which acti and blizzard are known to be the best at.Selling they`re stocks is a really stupid move unless there`s something going on here that we don`t know about.

Diablo was obviously quite a sales success, unless I'm missing something. There is no reason I can think of to dump this lot. But I'm no economist.

Or they have to sell it - since it is the cash cow that they can get enough money for to close the gaping economy...

Unless it boosted them to 19 euro, it didn't help. If their projected sales figures for Diablo III say they'll be losing money, they'll sell.

Good. The fewer suits there are between developers and gamers the better the games will be.

Activision haven't put anything new on the table in forever, and will flog "CoD" to death as they did with "Guitar Hero". Blizzard TAKE forever to put anything on the table, so in fact both don't really add a lot to a yearly fiscal report.
Vivendi, once top games publishers in their own right ("Ground Control II" etc) seem to be moving more and more into the social media network area and Acti-Blizz just don't make the cut. The trouble is:
who'd buy them????

Heh, sell it to EA and proclaim the apocalypse officially here :P

That would be a dream come true for Dice and EA. They'd control both the "CoD" and "Battlefield" franchises, including "CoD Elite" and "BF3 Premium". Then add "MoH" to the bunch for an Unholy Trinity.
I think I'd sell a kidney to buy shares (or A share) in EA if that nightmare scenario ever came to pass.
Acti-Blizz I believe will just try to go it alone, but as i said, they really do not have a whole load of IP's to bring with them, despite "WoW"'s subscriptions and Blizzard's love affair with South Korea.

Lol obiwan, that really would be a sign of the apocalypse :)

If it actually happened I bet Blizzard would get shut down a few years later.

Nah, Bobby Kottick would buy it and Blizzard would start pumping out titles on a yearly basis - "Starcraft: Modern Spacewar X" etc.

Even worse :)

It's either that or the obligatory 10 year wait between titles that Blizzard is so fond of ( a kid can go from Primary School to University in the time it takes them to release one bloody game). A middle ground would be nice. Time for Uncle Bobby and Kung Fu Panda to sit down and have a head-to-head.

True, but at least they (mostly) make interesting games.

Don't worry...I almost bought it, but luckily got a hold of the Demo first. Whew!

Well, it was in the old days - when you could return a game! *Ahh, those were the days*
Now your either digitally screwed or screwed since the "service" you buy on a disc is deemed worthless as soon as you rip the plastic off...
