Pachter: Max Payne 3 did less than 50% sales than LA Noire

Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter revealed some startling news from the NPD on his Twitter feed: Max Payne 3 did less than half of LA Noire's launch business in the same period of time.

Pachter tweeted, "Without divulging too much NPD goodness, I can tell you that Max Payne 3 sales were less than 50% of L.A. Noire's. 8 years in development!"

This is devastating for Take 2 Interactive, which sunk in a ton of cash into reviving the IP. It could be 8 years was too long between games even for the Max Payne property.

I think they strayed too far from the core of Max Payne and most of the images showed only bald Max Payne in Hawaii shirt in the sunny favela. The gritty nitty dark humour and noire effect is kind of lost in the MP3.

Also, some may not believe that Rockstar with the GTA games could actually make a decent Max Payne game. Just speculations though...

As far as Max Payne as a game - RockStar have scared off the ones that likes to play the game with cut-scenes and a cheat-riddled mp part...

It didn't help Max Payne 3 was released on the same day as Diablo III.

While on my list I can't really afford to buy too many games, diablo took priority and max payne will be on the Christmas list.
