Rumor: Watch Dogs features SmartGlass support
Posted: 18.06.2012 17:38 by Comments: 11
A preview of the upcoming next-gen open world game Watch Dogs in the French newspaper Le Monde showed a picture of the game in action with a notable feature: the player was depicted as using a tablet in conjunction with the game.

This is interesting simply because Microsoft touted its upcoming SmartGlass feature for the Xbox 360 and Windows 8 which would allow players to use their tablets such as iPads to augment their game playing experience with future games.

Is this an unofficial confirmation that Watch Dogs will enjoy SmartGlass support?

It might enhance the game on an xbox but on a pc i have so many buttons and a mouse, why would i need a tablet?I just don`t get it.

Believe me, playing games on a Zenithink (Android) Tablet is no fun, unless it's Chess, "Angry Birds" or a Tower Defence game. Aside from having no interest in 'upgrading' to Windows 8 the mobile market is still not fully independent nor is the hardware optimised to the point where I would exchange a notebook for serious mobile gaming.
Tablets are fickle beasts at best, in my experience though I have not tried the iPad (which is not obviously an option with Microsoft). Battery life is also something to seriously consider, as they drain juice fast.
I'll just be happy to follow the progress of the development and progression of this growing market and see where it all leads.
Thanks for this, Jonah. Always interested in new tech and it's applications.

I can see this working for Watch Dogs. After all, the whole idea is that the protagonist is using his mobile phone to access the city's control centre...

Microsoft released their Tablet yesterday and it was a fizzer (as in it fizzled where Press and customer reaction was concerned). It's more like a notebook than a Tablet and news of Windows 8 instability and bugs aren't making the situation any better. That's what this game is meant to be played on, so I'd be giving it a wide berth despite it's promising concept.

Don't shoot me, Jonah:) I can only talk about the reception it received here. Never handled one myself, and being happy with my Zenithink I don't think I ever will - unless I win one, of course.

Let me put it this way - it's packed full of power and is 9.3mm thick.

But it runs Windows 8, yes? That might be a problem.

From what I've heard win8 runs very well...it's just stupid for desktops and laptops

We'll see when it releases, but it is in no way, shape or form coming near my PC which it is supposed to be wirtten for 'primarily', with Tablets as an offshoot.

Exactly my standpoint.
