Over 3 million copies says Doom 3 not a "bad" game says designer

Doom 3 designer Tim Willits explains that while he understands some of the criticism on id's horror shooter, he's still proud of its success as sales figures show.

He went on to say that any "self-respecting" videogamer loves Doom but everyone's "vision" and "memories" of Doom were very different, and where they thought it should go.

"Games that sell over three-and-a-half million copies are not bad games," said Willits.

"If you are any self-respecting videogame player, you love Doom, but everyone’s vision of Doom and memories they had of playing Doom, and what they thought Doom should be - everyone had a different idea."

Recently Id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead belittled those who criticised Doom 3 earlier in the year stating "they get no credibility", and described the horror shooter as the "the most successful game in id's history".

"When you’re that popular, you will have different opinions. It was very successful for us, and I love playing it even to this day, and there are few games that look better, still, and that game came out a long time ago," added Willits.

Well... The fourth Doom might be a bigger success... Never liked part 3.

I thought Doom 3 to be a fair title, I enjoyed it and felt it was worth what I paid. That being said -- Do I think it\'s a really great game? No.
