Pirahna Games has released a new MechWarrior Online developer diary showing off the wintry Frozen City region, where players are dropped into what once was the city center of a thriving metropolis which has become a frozen environment.

According to the developer, dynamic weather conditions will impact both visibility and strategy, which changing conditions. One minute, combatants might be able to clearly across the map only to be stuck in the midst of a blizzard the next. Players will have to rely on instrumentation such as thermal imaging.

Of course, in the extreme cold, battles will be more furious as overheating is slower. When walking on ice, traction will be reduced. While a light mech will have a better ability to slow down, a heavier mech's weight will make it much more difficult to slow down once it has reached high speed.

Check out the developer diary in the video below.

It's come a long way since the original MechWarrior game published by Dynamix. Can't believe it's already been so long

I'm still wondering what happened to the "Mechwarrior" Mega Mod based on "Crysis" - it was looking so promising. Oh well, if I'm going to play online I'd better get new glasses, finger muscle implants, nerve stimulants....

If they keep the pacing more like the original, you should be able to play fairly leisurely really. Just get good keybindings ^^

I think Mechawarrior: Living Legends is still being worked on. And I hear you there, Herod. I'm already looking at my joystick and it's taken such a toll with all the other sims I play, I just don't know if it could handle the tension of mech match XD

"Living Legends" still being worked on - but it's been years already. *groan*.
If anyone sees a limping, battered Madcat or Marauder diving for a repair vehicle that'll be me. Say "Hi" as you pass by:)

Use Madcats and Marauders eh? Nice tastes ^^

I'm a sucker for Clan tech myself :)

Madcats and Orions, my top two :D (seriously, who doesn't love a Madcat? :D) Though admittedly the Clan mechs could be quite impressive. I loved equipping my mech with clan weapons :D

All I care is for a balanced gameplay, Clanners can have superior tech for all I care as long as Inner Sphere gets bigger numbers to compensate.

Clan tech has drawbacks you know, typically their extended ranges etc come with greater heat production, which means you have to be more careful with placing your fire. Also, it's perfectly possible to fit clan components on an Inner Sphere mech IIRC. I see no reason it would cause an imbalance.

Alright, I just downloaded MW 4 again because now I can't stop thinking about it ^^

Funny, I installed "Mech Commander 2" again to get in the mood.

I gave the free MW4 another go as well two weeks ago, I needed to remind myself what mechs are all about :).

I'm just a casual fan who's looking at this from a gamers point of view so I'm in a bit of a pickle. I want the elite founders package but I cant pick a mech cause we simply don't have any info to make a rational choice, I just want a money maker.
I'm also thinking about the legendary package but somehow it just seems too expensive for what you get. For the extra 60$ I can (probably) just buy myself premium mechs somewhere down the line if I realize that I need them.

Three F2P's just had big sale on all their pay-for-items (including "Battlield P4F" and "STO") and while you might have to wait some time, prices will drop as not many like spending on a "free" game. I'll wait as for me it IS too expensive.
Now, where did I put my "Battletech" encyclopaedia.....
