Caustic Valley blazes in new MechWarrior Online gameplay video
Posted: 23.07.2012 18:58 by JonahFalcon Comments: 19
Piranha Games already showed off an icy setting for MechWarrior Online a few weeks ago, and now they unveil the exact opposite, the blistering Caustic Valley.

As might be expected from a hot, desert-like setting, players have to be concerned about their heat-sinks overheating too quickly. Check out the developer diary in the video below.

Someone told me that they were glad that this would prevent laser gunboats - but also hoped missiles weren't as lame as they looked in the vid.

I do hope this supports joystick control.

It does.

There's even an official Mecwarrior Razer joystick in the works.

That takes me back to the halcyon days of building cockpits for flight and racing sims, nocc (one guy's wife had to knock on his genuine Sabre jet canopy to tell him his dinner was ready).
However, I've found any peripherals by Razer are generally over-priced and of widely varying quality (love my Exactmat but my Lycosa gives me fingertip bruises). There's nothing their $100 mouse can do that an MX-518 can't - actually less.
I'll go with my Logitech 3D Pro any day - until, my Saitek x52 Pro arrives:)

It wasn't my intention to advertise Razer, it was simply the most convenient way of showing that the game supports joysticks.

There's a good comparison thread on MWO forums:

It would seem that you have picked a nice one :)

I'd like to get my hands on a Microsoft Sidewinder 2 but they're only available second-hand and from the US (the shipment alone makes it too damn epensive).
Thanks for the link, Nocc - good coverage.

I really fear the f2p model for this game...I think it will ruin it...greedy bastards...it will be like WoT with kiddies who bought all the fun stuff.

Not just kiddies, but the older grognards who like to spec-out everything and rub it in everyone else's face (age knows no barrier to 'wankerism'). They can be just as irksome (sometimes more so), even at my age and older:)

Herodotus, can I quote you on the statement "Age knows no barrier to 'wankerism'"? :D

So far the only thing you can buy are cosmetics and things that save you some time. There's no premium ammo and no premium vehicles that would give you an in-game advantage.

"save you some time" isn't it a simple advantage?
By nocutius (SI Elite) on Jul 25, 2012

Not a direct in-game one, you can get everything as a free player as well, it just takes a bit longer.

You can either pay cash to unlock things faster or take the time to unlock them completely for free. You simply can not buy something that would give you an advantage that cant also be acquired for free.

At least that what they've promised us, and the entire community will be *very* angry if that ever happens.

Sounds good, nocc. Keep us updated.
