UbiSoft patches UPlay rootkit issue

Ubisoft has released a statement announcing that they've released a "forced patch" to fix the "flaw" in the Uplay app for PC. This comes in response to the discovering of security flaws in the app, which caused many to denounce it as a "rootkit".

In the statement, Ubisoft announced, “We have made a forced patch to correct the flaw in the browser plug-in for the Uplay PC application that was brought to our attention earlier today. We recommend that all Uplay users update their Uplay PC application without a Web browser open. This will allow the plug-in to update correctly. An updated version of the Uplay PC installer with the patch also is available from Uplay.com.

Ubisoft takes security issues very seriously, and we will continue to monitor all reports of vulnerabilities within our software and take swift action to resolve such issues.”

Stay tuned.

Ahhh, just realised I have no Ubi games that require UPlay installed at present and while I can easily find SecuRom and Tages hiding away, I can't find any vestiges of UPlay, not that I want to.
One thing I do/did like about UPlay is the ability to "purchase" content for my games through completing tasks or missions in said games. Managed to secure a few "SH5" and "RUSE" extras through this method.

Well, I have no Ubisoft titles at all right now - and won't have for a foreseeable future neither...
