Report: Next Xbox console will support Windows 8

In an interview with The Verge, Microsoft GM Brian Hall revealed in a verbal slip that the next generation of Xbox, which some claim has been codenamed Durango, will support Windows 8.

Xbox Live on Windows 8

According to Hall, who was discussing Outlook.com, “We’ve had Hotmail and operated Hotmail for about 16 years, we obviously have Exchange, and Outlook, that people use at work. We just decided it was time to do something new and bring the best from each of those and put them together and release it right in time for the new wave of products that we could have coming out with Windows 8, with the new version of Office with the new Windows phone and the new Xbox.”

This fits with recent rumors that the new Xbox will be titled "the Xbox Infinity" (with an 8 being tipped on its side to tie in with Windows 8 and Windows 8 Phone) and will be customizable like a PC.

Major Nelson had already confirmed that Windows 8 will feature Xbox Live.

You really don`t know Jonah? Well there`s a million reasons but i`ll stick with what i think is the biggest, the OS isn`t made for PC,it`s for tablets and the such,so anyone using it on a PC will have problems with it.

Have you actually used it danfreeman? Because Ive been running Windows 8 since the first leak nearly a year ago. I have no problems with it whatsoever. Everything about Windows 8 is better, save Metro, which is just a replacement for the start menu. The start menu that not many people use anymore.

Get out of here with your Apple Fanboyism.

Ummm, I'm not an Apple Fanboy and still consider that Windows 8 is going to be a major disaster.

Why? Because Gabe Newell is scared of it? LOL

Absolutely not. It's main weakness is the fact it's developed primarily for tablets.

How about we wait until it gets out and then decide how good or bad is it?
As of right now, this is all just speculation.

I don't actually see him saying anything about the XBox having Windows 8 in that quote. If that were true, it could be reverse-engineered to run on PC's. I'd love to play Halo 3 and Red Dead Redemption, to be honest.

Exactly, unsilviu. Altough, I doubt that Microsoft will let us do that with the X360 exclusives without taking more money from us.
But, to hell with the Eight. The Seven will be on the scene for at least five more years so I'm not worried.
